Hi all, I don't think this title exists for the Atari 8-bit computers: 1st Division Manager (Codemaster/Reflective Design, 1993). Maybe it has been released for many different platforms such as the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, etc. and of course the C64, which is the one I'm using at the moment. I know there are versions for the Atari ST and Amiga, and they are basically the same, not only in terms of graphics, probably the Amiga version is a simple port from the ST.
My question to you all: has someone ever played this game for a while, getting some success out of it? Recently, I tried to begin a new season, but I always end up with very low performance by my own team. Even with the best skilled players (5 out of 5), I never got any win starting from the 3rd, 2nd or 1st Division. Only draws or losses.
Another thing I really don't understand: I select my formation (for example, 4-3-3 or 4-4-2) but when the highlights are shown, my opponent always has 4 players in every area of the pitch while my team reflects the formation I gave.
One thing I really hate is the two-digits score for each team (00-00 or 02-01 instead of 0 - 0 or 2 - 1). Same for league table when that appears.
I don't know this game at all, Mr C BUT I may have a copy of it somewhere in my Speccy tape box collection.
I do like Footie Managers (but this one sounds a bit naff if your observations do apply to all versions - certainly the C64 one doesn't sound well thought through), so I will come back to you with my findings...
...and if I find it, I will play it and see if the Spectrum version suffers similarly!
