The 400 was my first Atari, back in June '83 and I've recently rekindled my love affair with the 400 with that job lot I got from Kent, bonus part being that the 400 was already upgraded to 48k so all that was needed was a video mod (thanks FJC!) to make it useable on my TV.
In fact, I think my 1200XL has had it's nose put out of joint by its smaller counterpart with the 400 getting so much use recently (can computers get jealous?!?)
It's beautiful, indeed, Baz - but personally I'm not after one of these. The membrane keyboard, the limitations in normal usage. I mean, it's a perfect piece if you are vintage collector, which I'm not. I rarely use the ZX81 for the same reasons, keyboard input and memory limits (although it gets really better with the 16K expansion you found for me, thx again!).
Giacomo is a very good still life photographer, on his site you can admire many other old computers shining under his lights and lenses. You cannot avoid enjoying the beauty of the objects and their design.
