I decided just to combine 360 degree 3D games and forward-only 3D games into one topic. Below I've started a list of both types, which will also give you an idea of what I have in mind if my "3D" descriptions weren't good enough. First a slightly better description. forward only scaling 3D can have left-right movement and horizontal scrolling of the environment, or it can just be your ship within the confines of the screen left-right movement. 360 rotating & scaling 3D you can turn around, 360 degrees in any direction of the "compass."
maybe a discussion on including 360 degree 3D with six degrees of freedom like Star Raiders, Rescue on Fractalus and Mercenery. My thinking they are a bit more simulation-like and deserve a separate catagory. But maybe they aren't simulation enough?, Like F-15 and Tomahawk and Flight simulator? We'll have to discuss primitive forward only with no or minimal scaling, like Juno First, too.
Forward-only scaling 3D
Buck Rogers Cygnus X1 Space Harrier Stealth Yoomp! (what's the one where everything is made up of wire-frame squares and rectangles?)
360 rotating 3D
Encounter! Dimension X Ball Blazer (partial control 360) The Eidelon Koronis Rift Midi Maze Final Legacy Star Trek SOS Battle Zone

I would add another category for 90 degrees 3D (forward + left-right) ? Most 3D-Maze (labyrinth) games for the A8 should fit there. Don't think they belong to the forward only category.
Not sure where games with vector and/or wireframe gfx like Blaster, Mercenary, F15, Thomahawk, Omnitrend's Universe, Fighter Pilot (F16), Flight Sim. II, Soloflight, etc. would fit. And where does the classic Star Raiders fit ? Or the unfinished Star Raiders 2 by Aric Wilmunder ?
And then there are the few "real" 3D games that require red/green or red/blue 3D-glasses, like Birdman (demo only!) by AMC-Verlag and Superski by AMC-Verlag.
But then that's the point charlie, there is no catagory for those games because I'm not interested in those games for this thread, only those as I described. I'm not attempting to cover all "3D" type games in my quest, just a list of the genre/type specifically described.
