Some recommendations made by Retro Gamer magazine for the discerning Lynx gamer who might not have come across these interesting titles:
BATTLEZONE 2000 (Handmade Software, 1995) - Although it looks like the original Battlezone, BZ2000 is structured completely different with a variety of different missions and choices of tank. Amazingly, locked inside the program, is an enhanced version of the program...a kind of Easter Egg and apparently...it's excellent. One to go for, guys, if you don't have it already.
BATTLEWHEELS (Beyond Games, 1993) - a fast-paced action game that plays to the Lynx's strengths and reveals just how capable the console is in the right hands. Explosions fill the screen constantly and the AI is challenging enough to ensure that playing 1up isn't a chore... though it caters for up 6 players if you have the friends/hardware available.
CHECKERED FLAG (Atari Corp, 1991) - It's a little unforgiving at times this one, the AI being quite ferocious! It's most definitely a racing game challenge - possibly a bit tough for new comers. Graphically very good with great animation and slick scrolling. It even features a neat follow camera mode. Again, 6 player multiplayer mode also available.
and the best of the rest:
Dirty Larry: Renegade Cop; Gordo 106; Ishido: Way of the stones; Malibu Bikini Volleyball; Dracula the Undead; Dinolympics; Shanghai and Awesome Golf.
Go check these titles out if you can find 'em, guys - and if you have them already - what is it for you that makes these carts especially 'interesting' or can you put forward 2-3 of your own nominees?
Blue Lightning (Aka Blue Harrier), Toki, Roadblasters (far better than ST version, just pipped by MegaDrive version), APB (though sadly lacking the prisoner confession sequence ST version has), Dracula (only let down by lack of save game feature), Shadow Of The Beast (lacks flying section, needs a password system), Pac-Land, Ramparts, Lemmings (icons on pause screen kills frantic nature of game though), Ninja Gaiden, Rygar....
